Car Care - October 2013

I know it's hard to believe it, but summer road trip season is not too far off at all. Labour Weekend (October 26-29) is quite often the first big trip for a lot of people after winter. Make sure you don't let your vehicle spoil your fun by making sure it is safe and sound for travelling before you head away. Even if you are not due for a WOF and service, it may still be a good idea to get a quick check up before you go to ensure that everything is in order.

Remember that it is not just engine oil that degrades with time and use. It could be time to flush your transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid or power steer oil. We have the equipment here to carry out all of those services and if you are unsure if you need one, just ask us to check your fluid.

Will you be dusting off the boat trailer or caravan for the first time in a long time? Don't forget to make sure your WOF is current if you haven't given them much thought since last summer. To ensure safe towing, make sure your wheel bearing are still okay and that all your lights are working. Also get the trailer brakes checked if you have them.

The end of the year is traditionally very busy for us so, to avoid disappointment and panic, we would recommend booking in sooner rather than later for your pre trip services, check ups and Warrant of Fitness inspections. We can post date WOFs by 14 days so you don't have to wait until the expiry date to bring it in.

We now sell and accept MTA Gift cards if you are looking for a gift idea, or have been gifted one to spend. These replace the old vouchers, can be spent like cash and you can redeem them here or at other participating MTA agents such as petrol stations. Further information about how they work here.

Changes to the WOF System in 2014

Many of you will be curious about and affected by the upcoming Changes to the WOF system next year. To simplify what is planned, here is the latest update from the New Zealand Transport Agency about the changes.

"The government has announced that the changes to the warrant of fitness inspection will be introduced in two stages.

From January 1 2014, light vehicles registered anywhere between 2004-2008 will move to annual, rather than the current six-monthly inspection. They will remain on annual inspections for their lifetime.

From 1 July 2014, annual inspections will be extended to include all light vehicles first registered anywhere on or after 1 January 2000. Also from this date new vehicles will have an initial inspection, another one when they're three years old and then annual inspections for their lifetime.

Vehicles first registered anywhere before 1 January will remain on six-monthly inspections for their lifetime."
